A Chance Encounter (Open)

Another day in Ba Sing Se, another day of training with the Black Hand, another day of the same old things. Those were Aubrey’s thoughts as he stepped out of his family’s dojo. He had decided to take part of the day off, skipping the classes that he would usually take with the Black Hand. He had learned earlier in life, that if you don’t slow down and take breaks every once in a while. And Aubrey had decided to go to the market, to see what was for sale and if he could get any bargains on meat. He had taken a small amount of money, and Flore Av. The Claymore itself was strapped to his back, and the money in his left pocket. Taeo had been worried about his son taking the sword to a place like the market, where thieves could be anywhere, but in the end Aubrey had just snuck out anyway, his father let him work for the Hēishǒu so Aubrey knew he would be fine if he went.

It was a short walk for Aubrey to get to the main market in the richest part of the city, amazingly there weren’t many people there, and the prices were way to high. ”Idiot” Aubrey muttered ”I shoulda realized that the prices here would be high” Shaking his head, Aubrey walked towards the middle part of the city, hoping he could find better prices. He just hoped people wouldn’t notice his silk garments and figure out he was of a higher class. That would mean that the sellers would charge him more. Moving towards the middle class area he entered the market when a kid, about 13 years old. With pale white skin, and long black hair, bumped into him. As he ran off muttering ”sorry Aubrey instinctively checked his pockets, he found that the money was gone. He was still able to see the kid in the distance, and the Swordsman sprinted after him silently

The chase lasted for a few minutes, and to Aubrey’s surprise the kid was almost as fast as he was. But soon they neared the poor part of the city, Aubrey had traveled pretty far actually. He had passed the inner wall in order to get to the “mid-market” and although they weren’t even close to the outer wall, Aubrey could see the communities getting poorer and poorer with every block he raced through. There was a small square and the kid stopped there. Turned around and visibly jumped when he saw Aubrey standing a few feet away. Silently Aubrey regarded the kid. Seeing his situation Aubrey would have felt like an ass if he took the money. Nodding to the kid Aubrey walked off towards the inner wall.

A few minutes later, and Aubrey was back in the same square. ”That’s odd” he muttered, the swordsman once again tried to get back to the inner wall. And once again found himself back in the same square. Another try and he was back again. ”Shit, I’m lost!” Aubrey yelled, spinning around on his toes for a few moments before collapsing flat on the ground. Looking at the sky he thought ’How am I gonna get outta this one?’
